MY BODY! GOD’S TEMPLE!

Positive affirmation- it works!

I take my stand in front of the mirror and repeat words that I coined together, smiling as I boldly pronounce what would empower me for the rest of the day.

I’m beautiful!

I’m bold!

I’m confident!

I’m perfect!

I’m God’s!

I have power and I’m gonna achieve great things today!

On days when the sun shines bright in the morning, I wake up energised and ready to take on the day and whatever challenges it presents. I enthusiastically proclaim them, speaking not only to my mind, but to my body as well. In that moment -and for the rest of the day- my insecurities fade into the background and I notice them no more.

However, some days are like today- when that sun ain’t shining bright enough and those insecurities become prominent. Affirmations that usually get me through the day now only last half the day. The mirror that once beheld my smile now beholds a furrowed brow. Words once proclaimed boldly now watered down into questions.-why do I/do not have this? why am I like/ not like this? I know I suffer not alone from this but still, in that moment I always feel like I’m the worst example of what a normal human being should look like.

But I receive peace from God’s words:-

‘Do you not know that your bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own, you were bought at a price. Therefore honour God with your bodies’

1 Corinthians 6:19-20

It begs the question- is our body truly ours?

My body is God’s temple, and so is yours! It’s not for the pleasing of anyone, not something to be conformed to the standards of this world but God’s temple. We give so much respect to buildings erected by human hands and gaze in awe, yet we fail to treat our bodies (sculpted by God) with the love and the respect it deserves.

God’s spirit dwells IN us, inside us. The Holy Spirit is resident inside the same body we feel insecure about. I implore you reading this to join me and begin to see yourself differently, see yourself as the temple of God.

I hope, like me, you find peace in this verse and I pray God gives us all the grace to love every part of our bodies as we consciously bring to mind -Our Bodies, God’s Temple…AMEN!
